SparkCareer Interest in Preschoolers
Brooklyn, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/17/2014 -- What do you want to be when you grow up? This is a question continuously asked to children from the moment they can speak and time again at various points in their lives. At Garden of Knowledge Day Care & Learning Center, teachers are exposing children as young as 2 years old to answer this question with understanding and confidence by introducing the youngsters to a few of the many careers that await them.
For the next few days different professionals in the community will visit our students to introduce their occupations in a fun, interactive, and unforgettable way. These experts include an Optometrist, Real Estate Brokers, and a Nurse Practitioner. After their visits, teachers at GOK Day Care will expand on what the children learned over a week long period and review key vocabulary words, create art projects which reflect the careers, complete homework assignments on each occupation, and further familiarize themselves with each profession through role play.
Our first visitor was Dr. Tatyana Galinsky, a well-known Optometrist with over 12 years of experience working in our community. She currently works and is the owner of Perfect Eye Care located on 1944 Ralph Avenue in Brooklyn, N.Y. She is a mother of two and loves working with children.
During her visit, Dr. Galinsky introduced herself, explained to the students what she does, and read the story entitled “I Can See Just Fine” by Eric Barclay to help illustrate the importance of eyeglasses and healthy vision. Next, Dr. Galinsky brought out some of her tools that she uses at her office such as an eye chart, an eye model, and an Ophthalmoscope. She also demonstrated and performed eye exams on the students; each child was so eager for their turn. The children were very excited and anxious to manipulate the tools as well as to use them on each other. They asked lots of questions and were heavily involved in the career of Optometry. Lastly, Dr. Galinsky worked with the preschoolers on a creative art project which allowed students to practice using some of the vocabulary they’ve learned along with constructing and designing their own eyeglasses using colored construction paper.
