Glen Cove, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 02/27/2014 -- Fans of Lisbeth Salander can breathe a sigh of relief. Although Stieg Larsson will unfortunately never release another novel, there is a new book on the market to fill the gap.
C. Albert Parente’s ‘Gina Fahy, The Virgin Assassin’ is the electrifying tale of a young girl who witnesses the murder of her father and rape of her mother at the tender age of twelve. Vowing vengeance, Gina becomes consumed with her quest to get back at the men who robbed her of her innocence and destroyed her family.
Spanning all the years of Gina’s life, the book is by turns violent, adventurous and romantic, while also carrying an important underlying message.
“There is a current beneath the story of how dangerous our society has become,” says Parente. “It truly is an infestation of evil. I think Gina’s fight is a universal one – like the old adage, ‘an eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth’. She yearns to seek revenge, but she also wants love, and peace and contentment. She isn’t simply a one-note character – she is flawed, and real and emotional. That was wonderful to write.”
Richly detailed and vibrantly written, ‘Gina Fahy, The Virgin Assassin’ is a breakout novel that will entrance fans of popular series like ‘The Godfather’ and ‘Silence of the Lambs’.
Synopsis:
Gina Fahy, the Virgin Assassin (sequel to Are You a Fool Benncio?) begins joyfully with twelve-year-old Gina, a happy and excited spectator at the Saint Patrick’s Day parade, along with her parents, Tom and Teresa Fahy. The joy changes to fear and concern when Tom is threatened by Ed Byrne and Cockeye Dunne, boss and under boss of the Westies crime family. Two evenings later, Frank Grimes, a vicious hit man known as the Iceman appears at the door of the Fahy house. He murders Tom and rapes Teresa. Gina witnesses the horrific scene. She holds back her tears and swears at the Iceman saying: “Someday, somehow I will kill you.” The promise becomes an obsession.
The author undertook years of meticulous research to tell this story, which follows the main character throughout her life as she encounters crime families, lovers, vicious hit men and finally, her own downfall.
“When you have all of these interlocking tales, it does take a bit of work,” says Parente. “Maybe that is an understatement! It took a lot of work. Gina has a run-in with the Westies crime family early on in her life, and she also has links with the Mafia. I wanted to make sure the story was accurate.”
Contuing: “Although the novel is an adult thriller, at its heart it’s also a story about love. Gina loves her parents so much that she dedicates her life to avenging what happened to them. There’s no greater testament to her adoration than that.”
