Agoura Hills, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/06/2014 -- Global Genesis Group is excited to announce that they have acquired the exclusive International rights to the award-winning movie Radio Free Albemuth, adapted from science fiction mastermind Philip K. Dick, the creator of Blade Runner, Minority Report and A Scanner Darkly. The feature film stars Boardwalk Empire’s Shea Whigham, Viking’s Katheryn Winnick and Alanis Morissette. Omar Kaczmarczyk Global IP Manager of Global Genesis Group, said "this is an absolute coup for GGG to obtain the exclusive international rights to a film based on a novel from Philip K. Dick, one of the worlds most acclaimed sic fi novelists. Radio Free Albemuth has truly been embraced by his core fans.”
The film scored its USA release in 2014 and is now poised for distribution internationally. Radio Free Albemuth takes place in an alternative reality 1985, as radio store clerk Nick Brady receives messages from an extraterrestrial source. Nick is told to uproot his family and embark on a mission of mind-shattering proportions as he joins a conspiracy to overthrow the authoritarian U.S. regime. Richard Kuipers in Variety wrote, “Radio Free Albemuth should connect strongly with (Philip K.) Dick's fanbase.” The movie is “consistently absorbing, well-performed, delivering satisfying intrigue and suspense”
Radio Free Albemuth, based on the novel by Philip K. Dick, was adapted for the screen and directed by John Alan Simon, in his feature film debut. "No other science fiction writer has the huge, highly-educated, influential international readership of Philip K. Dick. The big-budget, effects-heavy studio movies made from Dick's works have often emphasized one ‘high concept’ idea to try to create exciting action movies. We set out to make a movie that also captures all the other aspects that reader/fans like myself love - Dick's dark humor, politics, visionary metaphysics, borderline paranoia, and especially his tender view of the human condition,” said Simon.
The website Nerve ranked Radio Free Albemuth the number 4 best adaptation of Philip K. Dick's work out of the dozen stories brought to screen from his ideas. http://www.nerve.com/entertainment/ranked/ranked-philip-k-dick-adaptations-from-worst-to-best. In fact, according to Sci-Fi London - "In our view, Radio Free Albemuth, is the best adaptation of Philip K. Dick's works to screen by far."
