Motor-generator will drive an automation machine designed to run on 60 Hz that will be shipped to a European customer where the power source is 50 Hz
Randolph, MA -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/22/2014 -- The Horlick Company, a worldwide supplier of motor-generator sets and industrial control panels, announces the delivery of a 50 Hz to 60 Hz frequency conversion motor-generator set to a customer in the automation machine industry. The motor-generator will be shipped, along with an automation machine supplied by Horlick’s customer, to an end customer in Europe where the local power is at 50 Hz. The automation machine was designed to run using 60 Hz power, therefore the Horlick motor-generator set will be used to convert the local 50 Hz power to 60 Hz.
Among the most important requirements for this delivery was that the motor-generator be CE certified for the European Economic Area. The CE marking is the manufacturer's declaration that the product meets the requirements of the applicable European community directives particularly with respect to safety standards. CE is often taken to be an abbreviation of “Conformité Européenne”, meaning "European Conformity" and it ensures that the manufacturer has carried out certain well-defined steps prior to shipment. These steps include a conformity assessment, developing a comprehensive electrical technical file, and most importantly a signed CE declaration of conformity. The Horlick Company was chosen for this project because of their understanding of the CE certification process and willingness to certify their product in an expedited fashion.
Horlick’s customer had the following comments “We were totally pleased with the service from the Horlick Company, and the response time from Shawn Hennessey was amazing. Horlick was very receptive to the needs for CE certification and joined several conference calls to ensure that all the requirements were met in a satisfactory manner. We also had a need for a quick delivery which they were willing to meet. We can definitely recommend Horlick, in fact we are already working with them on another project!”
The motor generator set shipped was a Horlick Model 60SC-403. This is a standard 50 Hz to 60 Hz frequency converter for Horlick that utilizes a 4-pole, 1500 RPM, induction motor to drive a 4-pole, 1800 RPM, synchronous generator through a V-belt drive system. Horlick 60SC Model motor-generator sets are rated for continuous-duty and they produce an output that is 60 Hz (+/-1.0%). The Model 60SC-403 that was shipped was rated for 50 KVA and it produced an output current of 60A per phase at 277/480V, 3-phase.
Said Shawn Hennessey, Horlick’s vice president of engineering “We are declaring conformity to the Machinery Directive 2006-42-EC and the Low Voltage Directive 2006-95-EC, along with the standards listed below:
EN 61439 Low Voltage Switchgear and Control
EN 60204 Safety of Machinery – Electrical
EN 60034 Rotating Electrical Machines
We are pleased to offer CE certification of our motor-generator sets as an added service to our customers when required.”
