Hurricane Michael and the Effect of Storms

The extensive damage to Florida’s Gulf Coast caused by last month’s Hurricane Michael reminds homeowners that hurricane season remains in effect until the end of November. Homeowners may wish to keep in mind that when a storm is about to make landfall, insurance companies may not write new policies nor accept changes to existing ones.

Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/05/2018 -- As the heavy flooding from Hurricane Florence and Hurricane Irma in 2017 reminds us, a storm can result in millions of dollars in damages, which reinforces the importance of ensuring that homeowners are properly covered before a storm hits. Waiting too long could mean not having the coverage ready when a storm arrives.

While storms can be devastating to homeowners, it's worth reinforcing that renters are also at risk of having their home damaged due to a major storm. Those that rent may not realize the value of the contents in their rental home. By having renter's insurance, renters will have some peace of mind knowing belonging are protected and they are better prepared in the event they are forced to move because of the damage the home has sustained.
