Las Vegas, NV -- (SBWIRE) -- 05/22/2018 -- Yesnick Vision Center invites the public to take a seat at their annual Blind Breakfast, which was established as a way to enhance their optometry staff members' understanding of life with Low Vision. This year, the event will be held on Saturday, June 16th, 2018, 9:00 AM to 11:30 AM at Marie Calendars and is being run as a fundraiser for their non-profit Vision Recovery Center. Funds will be channeled towards providing underprivileged children with low vision aids. Sandy Yesnick, the only OTR/L, Certified Low Vision Therapist in Nevada, is the driving force behind this innovative, one-of-a-kind experience.
At the Blind Breakfast, each guest will be assigned a pair of glasses that mimics the effects of a different eye disease. Numerous health conditions and ocular conditions can lead to low vision, such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, retinitis pigmentosa, and cataracts. These customized eyeglasses simulate the visual impairments of each respective disease. Some people will only see blurred shadows, while others will see spots and blotches of color or a gaping black hole in their central field of vision. With the eyewear on their face, participants will learn how it feels to pour a cup of coffee, eat a meal, use their phone, and find their place at the table.
A number of low vision aids are available to help patients optimize their remaining sight. At the Blind Breakfast, Sandy Yesnick will review some of the ways to improve quality of life for people with reduced sight, such as lighting and specialized magnification devices. In past years, these breakfasts benefited the staff at Yesnick Vision Center greatly by helping them to put their patient's challenges into perspective. By opening the event to the public, YVC aims to promote a wider public awareness of the effects of low vision.
The Vision Recovery Center, a non-profit organization founded by Dr. David Yesnick and his wife, Sandy, provides people of all ages with the latest low vision aids and treatments, enabling them to perform tasks – driving, reading, working, seeing the faces of their family – that had become impossible.
"Helping people who otherwise cannot afford treatment and tools to lead a life with sight is one of the most heartwarming experiences. The kids and adults we help with the Vision Recovery Center are given a chance to live a new life. It is our goal that no one in Las Vegas should be left without the ability to see due to financial restrictions," says Sandy Yesnick.
As a fundraiser, the Blind Breakfast will advance the Vision Recovery Center's goal to provide disadvantaged children with the clearest, healthiest eyesight possible. For more information, contact the YESnick Vision Center; 702-966-2020.
