Biloxi, MS -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/23/2016 -- Ross Muller officially launched a Kickstarter campaign for garnering widespread support and financial backing for 'The Drive Smart Device', an inexpensive and reliable device that stops cell phone usage behind the wheel, while also alerting a third party of driving habits by text. The Kickstarter campaign aims to fund the completion of the build out of the device and to provide financing for app development on both the iOS and Android platforms.
According to Muller, there are currently few cost effective solutions on the market to manage the problem of cell phone distracted driving. Free apps tend to be limited in the fact that they operate strictly off of GPS, which does not activate until a vehicle reaches speeds of at least 15MPH, making them less reliable. Alternatively, reliable solutions on the market require a great deal of expertise or capital for vehicle installation. The Drive Smart Device ('DSD') purports to be very easy to install, turns on and off with the ignition switch of the car, and allows the parent to have peace of mind in the form of a text message delivered to their inbox each time the driver gets behind the wheel and when they have reached their destination.
Having been the victim of a distracted driver collision, the creator hopes it may even save a few lives. "DSD has been about two years in the making. After totaling out my truck, by a distracted teen driver, I began looking for something that could have helped avoid this kind of thing in the future and I found nothing. Said project creator Ross Muller. "The DSD has a vast number of applications. Trucking fleets that are given company paid cell phones, public transit drivers, school bus drivers, the list could be endless."
Muller states that the DSD is currently exists as a fully functional prototype. The concept has been established and is being built and sized as concurrently with the launch of the Kickstarter campaign.
Kickstarter is a funding platform for creative projects. Everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. 'Backers' who support DSD on Kickstarter get an inside look at the creative process, and help that project come to life. They will also be eligible to receive keychains, mugs and T-shirts depending upon their pledge level.
The Kickstarter campaign is officially open until September 29, 2016. For more information about the Kickstarter campaign, visit: http://kck.st/2bbR6Kp
