Dana Point, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/29/2016 -- Kids from the Other Side (KFTOS), a Califor-nia 501(c)3 with a mission to support high school students make it through high school without taking a drink or drug is being featured at the 2016 Reel Recovery Film Festival http://reelrecoveryfilmfestival.org in New York City on Sunday, September 25 at the Cinema Village Theatre on 22 E. 12th Street in New York City.
Board Certified Addictionologist and founder of KFTOS, Daniel Headrick, M.D., will be in per-son to speak about Kids From the Other Side and the making of the short film directed by Domi-nic Tierno.
With drug overdose now being the #1 cause of accidental death in the United States, The Other Side is the result of studies of hundreds of high school aged kids who have never abused a sub-stance and found a common key to their success. If middle school-aged kids make a commitment to never use drugs before they are faced with peer pressure they are more likely to stick to that goal. "The Other Side believes by inspiring the majority of young adults to commit to their drug-free pledge; they can change high schools across the nation. " says Dr. Daniel Headrick, Execu-tive Director of Kids from the Other Side.

Dr. Daniel Headrick also will be announcing the 2017 KFTOS Film and Video Contest. "We are pleased to develop an exciting contest for students to show each other that more and more kids are making it to the other side of graduation without drugs and alcohol. The short film contest is open to teams of students enrolled in any educational institution. The key to preventing drug abuse is early education. This contest has the potential to change the current trend in teen sub-stance abuse." says Dr. Daniel Headrick.
