Featuring Real Women Leading Real Lives That Are Real Serious & Really Funny.
Cincinnati, OH -- (SBWIRE) -- 09/09/2014 -- This idea of shooting a documentary about Sisters came after many seasons of looking at the changing, and sometimes questionable imagery that began popping up in all forms of popular media. Director Rick Johnson didn’t look any further than to his own hometown of Cincinnati and noticed the plight of Sisters as they strived to reach their goals and achieve success as they saw it. Voila! Sister City was born with two key points: What do Sisters see when they look in the mirror and what is a woman's role in today's society?
Director Rick Johnson set out on a unique path in shooting Sister City in the sense that it’s just much as a comedy as it is a documentary. This duality is intended to reach the widest possible audience not just with eye-opening insights into the life of Sisters but to deliver this education with a steady flow of comedy. Mr. Johnson wanted a wide variety of people to cover the widest possible spectrum of modern women.
About Sister City
Five women are featured in Sister City; Leah, the comedienne; Sakinah, the opera singer; Colissa, the educator; Anber, the hair stylist and Tonya, the daycare provider. The camera follows them around in their day to day lives and allows them to tell their stories the way they want to tell it. Many sidebars consist of interviews with all types of members of the greater community; men and women both young and old. Everyone interviewed chimes in with their own impressions of a Sister’s self image and what part do women play in the world today.
While substantially all of the film has been completed, crowdfunding for $70,700 is sought to take Sister City on a seven city tour with stops in Cincinnati, Atlanta, Miami, Los Angeles, New York, Detroit and Chicago. What happens during this tour will lead to two additional films tentatively titled, "SISTER CITY NEXT", parts 1 and 2. Thrown into the mix there are top secret social experiments planned along with some dramedy to spice things up. An introduction of the playboy rapper, Barbados Gold is planned as well.
A portion of all funds raised will be donated to Nehemiah Housing Development Co. (501c3) in order to spotlight a segment of our society that is often overlooked or simply misrepresented, namely Sisters.
This crowdfunding project ends on October 29, 2014
