In a recent blog post, MediQuest discussed the increased demand for caregivers as the Baby Boomer generation continues to retire at a rapid pace. According to the post, approximately 87 percent of adults aged 65 or older reported that they did not want to move from their current home or community. At the same time, younger job seekers tend to be intimidated by training requirements for caregiver positions and shy away from choosing home healthcare as a career path, despite encouragement from industry insiders.
MediQuest stresses that unless something is done about the shortage of caregivers, the client costs for home care will continue to rise. That means people who need help with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, and eating may not get the help that they so desperately need.
