Pair of Tournaments Are Presented by London Bay Homes
Naples, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/23/2016 -- On Saturday, August 27th, The Club at Mediterra will host their Third Annual 1-Day Singles Tiebreak Tournament, presented by London Bay Homes. Three weeks later, on Saturday, September 17th they will host the First-Ever USTA Tiebreak Tournament for juniors. Mediterra hosted the first-ever, USTA Sanctioned Tiebreak Tournament 3 years ago and since then, these compressed tournaments have exploded in popularity. "It's no surprise considering the modern, busy schedule. Many people don't want to spend 3 days, their entire weekend, and a lot of waiting around to play a tournament. I want my fitness, my tennis, my entertainment; and I want it now," says Mediterra's USPTA Director of Tennis, Mike Baldwin. Baldwin served on the USTA Adult Competition Committee that introduced "Alternative Format" initiative.
The Tiebreak Tournament has a draw like any other tournament, but rather than best of 3 sets, each match is best of 3 Tiebreaks. For example, a match score might be 10-7, 8-10, 11-9. That's a total of 55 points; comparable to playing a standard set. A consolation draw ensures everyone gets a minimum of two matches.
An added benefit of these half-day events is the reduced expense: players don't need to stay in a hotel or drive extreme distances. Plus, playing two singles matches per day in the Florida heat and humidity is not physically feasible.
Thanks to London Bay Homes' generous support, prize money will be awarded to the top finishers in the Open Division, which last year featured many of the area's top teaching professionals and collegiate players. In addition to the Open divisions there are NTRP divisions for every level.
