From author William F.F. Wood, four part science fiction series, ‘The Ruins of Arlandia’ takes readers on a journey through a crumbling universe, meeting small bands of survivors, robot-controlled space ships, predatory villains and a hero for the ages in Calvin Range.
Mascoutah, IL -- (SBWIRE) -- 01/07/2014 -- Fans of classic science fiction can breathe a sigh of relief. The genre isn’t going anywhere.
In fact, with the release of author William F.F. Wood’s new series, ‘The Ruins of Arlandia’, the industry has gotten a much needed transfusion of imagination, gripping writing, and good, clean fun.
“My books are family friendly,” Wood explains. “They can be enjoyed by all ages and passed down from parents to their children. It was vital to me when envisioning this series that I captured all the elements of excellent science fiction – a compelling universe, multi-faceted characters and a believable fight between good and evil.”
Synopsis:
The universe has been devastated from 100 years of war between the Goremog Empire and the No'Rath Domain. It has become a dangerous nightmare where small pockets of survivors are hunted down and destroyed. All living populations are nearly extinct. Driven by unquenchable hatred, fleets of robot controlled space ships have been built in order to continue fighting. The planets of Arlandia and Aleria put all their hopes in a super weapon, secretly built in ten remote locations.
When completed, it would have saved them from their enemies. But before they could finish it, the Alerian home world was destroyed, the people scattered and the weapon lost. Calvin Range is from the planet New Arlandia, a hidden planet that escaped the devastation of the war. After a disaster in space, Calvin, a Lieutenant in the Arlandian Space Force is propelled on an exciting adventure along with Astra, Princess of the planet Aleria. Together they must find the ten pieces of the super weapon and assemble it before the Goremog launch a second war and are able to finish what they started - total domination of the entire universe.
Although fans of science fiction will be thrilled with the rollicking adventure and vivid descriptions of space travel, as the author explains, the series also cuts straight to the heart of what is truly important.
“The book centers around saving the universe through teamwork, and the bonds of family and friendship. In the ruins of destruction, they are the only things that matter,” says Wood.
Continuing, “The relationships between the characters are complex and exciting. With this series, I explore what it means to be a human being amidst chaos, and how far people will go to save those they love and by extension, the human race. It’s been an experience I’ll never forget – creating this new world, and sharing it with my readers.”
Since its release, the book has garnered rave reviews:
Robert Jones wrote: “I thoroughly enjoyed this book--it reminded me of the Robert Heinlein books I read when I was younger--and I loved them! Well-written, exciting--I couldn't wait to see what happened next.”
Space Junky was equally as impressed: “Loved the book so much I read it in one sitting. The characters and story line were extremely easy to get into. I am looking very forward to the next book as the end left you hanging and wanting more.”
