Palmer Trinity Student Blake Miller Receives Mayor's Shining Scholars Award

Palmer Trinity School (PTS) senior, Blake Miller, was presented with the Mayor’s Shining Scholars’ The Emerging Leader Award at the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners’ meeting on April 19, 2016. The Emerging Leader Award recognizes students who have inspired positive change in others and the community.

 

Palmetto Bay, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 04/28/2016 -- "At Palmer Trinity School, we stress the value of giving back. Our goal for our students is that they learn to become citizens of the world, and we couldn't be more proud of Blake as he is recognized for those very qualities," expressed Patrick Roberts, Palmer Trinity, Head of School.

Miller has be recognized for his work as president of Patriot Outreach, a student-run organization that collects used sports equipment, uniforms, and shoes from local high schools to be donated to children in the Dominican Republic. The collection drives take place three times a year, and have collected more than 70,000 pieces of gear over the past 10 years.

A dedicated athlete himself, Miller plays on Palmer Trinity's varsity baseball, varsity football and varsity basketball teams. He is also a 2016 Silver Knight Award nominee, and won Player of the Year and Top Rusher for 2A to 5A schools in Miami-Dade County. Upon graduation Miller plans on attending the University of Miami to major in economics and sports administration.
