Durham, NC -- (SBWIRE) -- 11/03/2016 -- Falconbridge Animal Hospital along with our sister clinic, Village Veterinary Hospital of Chapel Hill, started a charitable event, Paws and Claus, in 2009. Paws and Claus is an event where the clinics provide supplies and the staff volunteer time to take photos of pets with Santa. The funds raised are then dedicated to a local animal charity.
Falconbridge Animal Hospital's team learned in 2011 that Meals-On-Wheels clients were sharing their delivered food to feed their pets. We quickly recognized two major problems. The clients were not getting all of the nutrition from the carefully balanced meals provided by Meals-On-Wheels, and neither were their pets. We also realized there was an easy fix to both problems: deliver pet food along with the human food. Meals-On-Wheels of Durham have remained the recipient since 2011.
Most of the companion pets that are fed through this program are older pets that have been with their owner for a number of years. These pets provide companionship and unconditional love to our neighbors who are limited in their ability to get out and be with other people. They help fill many hours that otherwise would be spent alone. We've heard from Meals-On-Wheels volunteers how grateful the clients who receive this food are. Knowing there are people who care enough to provide pet food means as much to the clients as the food itself.
Falconbridge Animal Hospital and Village Veterinary Hospital are proud of how generous our clients are. We started with raising $973 in 2011 and last year, in 2015, we raised $1567. In addition to Paws and Claus, the clinics now hold a raffle. Starting the beginning of November and running through the end of the year, pet related products and services are raffled off with the donors picking the item(s) they wish to try for. Prizes have included flea prevention, heartworm prevention, $200 off a dental, a wellness exam, and a pet spa day. Angela Marshall, RVT, coordinates the efforts of the team so that both the raffle and Paws and Claus run smoothly.
Unfortunately the food runs out in the summer. It will take twice this much to feed these precious companions for the full year. The Falconbridge and Village Vet team are hoping to find additional support in the community and reach our long sought goal of feeding Meals-On-Wheels of Durham's companion pets for a full year. Please stop by in November or December and purchase a raffle ticket for your pet! Raffle tickets are $1.00 each, and $7.00 buys a bag of pet food. If you don't have a pet, you can make your donation count twice by purchasing raffle tickets for flea or heartworm prevention. If you win just designate that it be donated to the Conservators Center.
About Falconbridge Animal Hospital
Falconbridge Animal Hospital was started with a love of animals and a desire to provide pets with the best health care possible. We began serving pets in the Durham and Chapel Hill area in 1996. The clinic was originally located near I-40 on Hwy 54 in south Durham. In the fall of 2011, Falconbridge Animal Hospital moved to our current location on Hwy 54 near the intersection of Hwy 751/Hope Valley Rd. The new, expanded veterinary hospital was designed and built specifically for us. Our satellite clinic, Village Veterinary Hospital, was opened in Governors Village of Chapel Hill in 2005.
