Sparks Shed Some Light on the Rising Cost of Energy Efficient Light Bulbs

London based electrical wholesaler help a Telegraph report into the rising cost of Light bulbs.

London, England -- (SBWire) -- 08/23/2011 --Sparks Direct, a London based electrical and lighting wholesaler, has this week been featured in a Telegraph news article on how energy saving light bulbs are leaping in price. The article comes after the announcement that all standard 60-watt light bulbs will cease production from the 1st of September 2011, as part of the UK government plan to cut carbon emissions.

It now seems the energy saving alternative to these light bulbs are starting to shoot up in price as demand for them looks likely to rise after the ban on 60-watt light bulbs comes into effect.

In the article, Sparks Direct enlightens the reader on how the raw cost of energy saving light bulbs have increased in the last few months, with the article stating “One major wholesaler, Sparks in north London, said the price charged by its supplier for an 11-watt CFL had risen from £1.39 in June to £1.67 today, an increase of 20 per cent.” This sharp rise coincidently comes at a time when the standard fitted 60-watt light bulb is coming out of production.

The price of these energy saving bulbs are expected to increase further in the coming months, which follows a previous trend from September 2009 when 100-watt light bulbs came out of production. It is claimed that the last batch of orders for these light bulbs incurred a 30 per cent higher cost than the previous ones as manufacturers looked to make as much money as possible from the units before they went out of production, and we should expect to see the same for the 60 watt light bulb.

Sparks Direct webmaster, Stefan Misaras, had his say on the increasing price of energy saving light bulbs, stating “Unfortunately for the consumer, this is the market we operate in. Naturally, when the standard 60-watt light bulb ceases production, there will be higher demand for the energy saving alternatives.”

Despite the disgruntled reaction to the news from many consumers, Mr Misaras was quick to state that customers are still getting real value for money “Energy saving light bulbs have risen in price, but they still save you more money than a standard 60-watt light bulb as they have a longer life span and help to reduce your electricity bill”.
