Law Firm Recruiting Process Returns in Full Force, Lawcrossing Find over 20,700 Jobs for Law Student
Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 09/16/2011 --Even though there hasn't been much improvement in the summer associate class sizes, there is, definitely, some progress seen in the offers for full-time employment received by the summer associates.
Survey of an AM Law Daily found that 17 national firms employing at least 20 second year students. The report shows an average of 62 students from each firm are offered jobs this year, which translates it to an average rate of 97%. This is high from last years' 47 students which translates it to an average rate of 95%. The National Association of Law Placement's report states that there was a drop in the overall rate of summer associates to 69.3% in 2009. In 2010, it reported an offer rate of 87.4%. The figures for 2011 will be out only after spring 2012.
Firms like Bingham McCutchen; Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton; Fried, Frank, Harris, Shriver & Jacobson; Mayer Brown; and Simpson Thacher & Bartlett offered 100% of their second-year students to join them full-time after graduation. While, O'Melveny & Myers; Goodwin Procter; Kirkland & Ellis; Cooley; and Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher surpassed the 97% average. Rest of the firms surveyed reported offer rates in the low-to-mid 90s range. NALP Executive Director James Leipold warns law students of getting too excited about law firm job scenario to get summer associate position next year.
