China Opens Access to Centralized Database of Bribery Convictions
Sunnyvale, CA -- (SBWire) -- 03/12/2012 --China’s major investigatory and prosecutorial division - Supreme People’s Procuratorate (SPP) along with other PRC anti-corruption organizations declared the availability of a centralized database of individuals and companies charged with bribery offenses to the public on February 16, 2012.
Companies and individuals will now be able to check for companies or individuals with bribery convictions throughout mainland China thus, eliminating the cumbersome task of checking every province or region individually.
In 2006, the SPP’s database was limited to construction, health/medicine, finance, education and government procurement. However, in 2009, the SPP announced to include all sectors, but had provincial limitations, requiring companies to apply to 31 provincial-level bodies under central government.
The SPP announcement on the integration of the regional level database of bribery convictions indicates the government’s effort to make such information easily available to the public.
Although online applications may be currently unavailable, companies are allowed to submit a written application with name and details of the individual or company they want to check, along with a copy of their business license.
