Mini Car Really Made It in Geneva This Year
A retrospective look at the event that was Geneva 2012 shows us the achievements of this retro-styled little car that is the inspiration for Mini Car Hire for all of us.
Northolt, Middlesex -- (SBWire) -- 04/30/2012 --The evergreen supercar in miniature with both vintage and contemporary styling had a fantastic time at this years Geneva Motor Show. Three reasons contribute to this success, and to the upsurge in interest in Mini Car Hire as a result. Bringing together all the reflections from Switzerland in one, we share these three sources of celebration of which this little stunner can be proud.
One of the first reasons to have reignited interest in Mini Hire is the launch of their new Van concept. Regenerating the image of the Mini in the eyes of the public, Mini unveiled a Clubman-based premium-class concept van. Dubbed the Clubvan, it is more than just a latter-day version of the 1960s Morris van. Whilst it does feature everything that a workday load-carrier should to ensure functionality, Mini hopes that it will capture the heart and eye, and wallet, of those boutique-style customers wanting to make a lifestyle statement. It does this with two seats, five doors, a full-length load bay where the Clubman would otherwise have seats, and a safety partition with honeycomb grating behind the seats. To increase appeal, the Clubvan is fully upholstered in anthracite-coloured cloth along the floor, walls and roof lining. Two outer-hinged rear doors complete the loading space. With elasticised straps for load security, opaque side windows and tinted rear windows it would seem that this concept is both practical and desirable.
A second and even more exciting reason that Mini had to celebrate Geneva this year was the launch of the new Countryman. From the stable of Mini John Cooper Works, the Countryman is the most powerful Mini so far. Using the highly successful formula of positioning a JCW model at the pinnacle of the range which already includes Cooper and Cooper S models, this is the sixth JCW model currently available.
With 215 bhp, it is also the first John Cooper Works car to be four-wheel drive, and it also features an overboost function. It reaches 62 mph from a standing start in seven seconds, and is extremely torque-laden. Standard will be the six-speed manual gearbox, but a six-speed automatic will also be made available, another first for the Mini JCW cars. The body is understandably sporty and stocky all at the same time, with eighteen-inch alloy wheels, reinforced anti-roll bars, lowered suspension, and a sports exhaust with chrome-tipped pipes.
On the inside, there are JCW-specified door sills, red-stitched sports seats, a sports steering wheel, and dials in relief for the rev counter and speedometer. Some of the best news about this hot item is that it will go on sale this autumn.
The final reason that Mini had to celebrate Geneva was that after the show lights went out, they received the 2012 Creativity Award for their exhibition stand. It was recognised that whilst Mini, no pun intended, had a stand of limited size, it had a high quality of novelty, welcome and originality. That sounds like everything one would expect from Super Car hire after all.
