New Vauxhall Astra – An Overview

Liver Pool, Merseyside -- (SBWire) -- 11/23/2009 -- The new Vauxhall Astra is set to be one of the most important models in Vauxhall’s history. With all the ups and downs that parent company GM has faced in recent months this new Astra needs to be a resounding success.

Having been given access to the background information on the new Astra http;//vauxhallquotes.co.uk wanted to share some of this information, highlighting the key points that will make this particular new Vauxhall stand out from the crowd. There is too much information to put into one document so instead the plan is to look and individual areas, discussing each one in turn and allowing a greater level of detail to be provided.

To commence the series it is best to take a general overview of the new Vauxhall Astra and identifying some of the areas to be covered in greater detail later.

Launched to an eager public at the Frankfurt Motor Show the new Vauxhall Astra, or Opel as it was badged in Germany, is all set to raise the standards in the compact car class. Outstanding levels of quality, super-efficient mechanicals and stylish bodywork sitting on a dynamic platform give the new Astra all the attributes to make it a resounding success when it goes on sale in December.

A long standing tradition with Vauxhall has been to provide innovative ideas and technology normally found in cars from higher classes but retaining the existing class price points. With the new Astra they have certainly maintained this tradition, with prices expected to start at around £15,500 for the well specified Astra Exclusiv 1.4.

To begin with the new Vauxhall Astra will only be available as a five-door hatchback, with eight different engines and five trim levels still offering a great deal of choice for the UK buyer. Other body styles will come onstream during 2010, though it is deemed critical to ensure availability of the five-door version since this will be the most popular body style.

The new Astra is being built at Ellesmere Port in Cheshire, the manufacturing plant being a key part of the Vauxhall Opel manufacturing process for more than 46 years. The plant will be responsible for building the new Astra for all European markets, though around a quarter of them will remain in the UK such is the demand for the car in its home country.

The Marketing Director of Vauxhall, Andy Gilson, explained that the new Vauxhall Astra is helping maintain the transformation of the Vauxhall range, bringing more quality and style to the brand and in doing so also attracting new customers who would previously have been considering more premium marques but can now get the same levels of quality and excellence but at a more affordable price.

So that is the new Vauxhall Astra, a car to take Vauxhall onwards and upwards. In future pieces key aspects of interior and exterior design, engine and gearbox developments, technological changes affecting driving dynamics plus the many great innovations across the different facets of the new Astra will be discussed.
