Jimmy Crockett Rolls In As the "Cadillac Man" With Debut CD Release
Astoria, NY -- (SBWire) -- 08/18/2010 -- When Jimmy Crockett strolls in the room and starts to strummin' keys and slanging grooves, it's like he's taking us on a ride in a vintage automobile and we are cruising 'round the highway bend. We can't help but catch the vibe and just ride right along with him. Serving up an eclectic collection of silky vocals over tracks that deliciously blend jazz, rock and funk infused R&B, his debut release, "Cadillac Man" is a trunk full of gems, hearkening seventies sensibilities. He pleasures our old school memories with rhythms that recall Average White Band meets Steely Dan.
"Cadillac Man" is cool. It's funky. And it's groovin'!
Just who is this Jimmy Crockett, penning songs that melt hearts and stir souls with the sound of his voice and his laid back storytelling abilities? Simply put, Jimmy Crockett is a burgeoning lyrical "magician" and keyboardist with a voice as soothing as hot chocolate on an ice cold winter's night. Recently nominated by the Northern California Chapter of the Black Music Association & Academy of America for an 8th Annual Sacramento "Sounds Of Soul Music" Award in the categories Best Male R&B Performer, Best New Artist, and Entertainer of the Year, it becomes apparent this Cadillac Man is just getting started!
Crockett began honing his vocal and songwriting skills in his youth, and wrote his "first real song" in high school. "I was always making up little melodies since I can remember. I started to add some words to my jingles when I was about 10," reveals Crockett.
Attributing his musical interests to his mother, Crockett stated, "My mother always had music in our house; Nat King Cole, The Mills Brothers and Mahalia Jackson." At just 12 years old, Crockett was compelled to take piano lessons being heavily influenced by his favorite musical wonder, Ramsey Lewis.
A compelling and authentic artist with a reputation for "telling it like it is," Crockett's inspiration for writing "Cadillac Man" came about during his brief stint as a gambler a few years ago. Captivated by gambler's lives, Crockett (who has since retired from the profession) began writing about experiences that were close to home and his heart. His "Tie with Me," "Bartender Lady," "Policeman," and "Betty's Song," are musical reflections of his past. With authentic lyrics and enchanting rhythms, Crockett's incomparable musical perfection is further realized on the blues tinged track "She's Still Comin' Back," the rockin' "Cadillac Man" and the breezy "Fly Away."
While Crockett writes all the songs, sings, and plays keys, he is joined by his band members Jerry Jennings on guitar, Nick Eble on bass, Jimmy Bagshaw on drums and Marcelled Maldonado serving up additional vocals.
Crockett hopes to continue to create music that will inspire and have a positive impact on his steadily rising global fan base. His core message is, "Do the right thing and be a good person." Not bad advice coming from a "Cadillac Man" who's been there and knows!
