Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Considers Sound Fighter Systems' Product to Solve I-30 Noise Problems

LSE Highway Sound Barrier System, a product made by Sound Fighter Systems, is in the running for possible solutions to the I-30 noise problem in the DFW area.

Shreveport, LA -- (SBWire) -- 09/02/2010 -- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) is looking into different methods to reduce the noise levels produced by some 100,000 vehicles traveling Interstate Highway 30 (I-30), which runs through the DFW area. Neighborhoods in the North Oak Cliff area suffer from the high levels of noise coming from this stretch of Interstate.

So far TxDOT has taken interest in two possible methods for solving this issue. Method one involves a Louisiana based company Sound Fighter Systems http://www.soundfighter.com . Their product, LSE Highway Sound Barrier System http://www.soundfighter.com/content.asp?page=11, is a fully sound-absorptive, high-performance sound wall. The LSE sound wall absorbs sound waves produced by traffic, rather than allowing the noise to bounce, which is what happens when concrete or brick are used. The other method involves using noise reducing asphalt. This method is being tested on a section of I-30, between Sylvan Avenue and Hampton Road.

Throughout the remaining months of the year, TxDOT will continue to test both methods for improving noise levels on I-30. At the end of testing, decibel levels will be re-evaluated with hopes that one of the methods will be cost-effective and beneficial for residents along the Interstate.
