San Francisco, CA -- (SBWire) -- 10/23/2014 --The home security industry is worth billions of dollars, yet there is a market that appears to be avoiding home security systems altogether.

BestHomeSecurityCompanys.com (BHSC) reached out to over 1,000 Americans living in apartments to determine what contributing factor has kept them from purchasing a home security system.

“There are home security companies that only provide services for home owners for liability purposes,” Carlie McKeon, BHSC PR Director, stated. “There are still plenty of companies that offer their services whether a person owns the residence or not. Service limits, however, are not the reason consumers living in apartments are enlisting the help of home security services.”

According to the survey, nearly 60 percent (57.7%) said the reason they don’t have a home security system is because the installation, equipment, and monitoring costs are all too expensive.

“After paying for the equipment to be shipped, installed, and monitored 24/7, many believe the costs are too high,” McKeon stated.

The second most common response in the survey for consumers living in apartments was that they do not consider home security systems to be reliable. Survey results showed that 23.7 percent felt that they could not trust a system to keep them safe.

Lastly, 13.4% of consumers polled said that they think a home security system is too complicated while 5.3% said they already have a home security system.

“Cost and trust are the two most common reasons behind renters refusing to purchase a home security system,” McKeon said. “Once home security companies can identify factors like these, they will be able to meet the needs of more consumers.”
