Three Mormon Missions: Uplifting New Novel Gives Vital Insight Into Personal Stories of "Smart Young Boys in White Shirts with Black Tags"
Masterfully crafted by Terry Cook, ‘Three Mormon Missions’ tells the individual and collective stories of three young men as they prepare to leave their loved ones to serve a Mormon mission. The book’s three dedicated missionaries come from entirely different backgrounds, proving that the smartly-dressed and well-mannered Mormons that millions come into contact with possess their own unique and compelling stories.
Charlotte, NC -- (SBWire) -- 11/03/2014 --Terry Cook coached his son Greg in baseball, played hundreds of rounds of golf with him and saw him as a rock of the family. Then, before he knew it, he and his wife were alone as Greg embarked on a two-year Mormon mission in California. The experience leading up to Greg’s departure was so life-changing that Cook is now fictionalizing it, and the collective story of almost one-hundred-thousand Mormon missionaries, in a gripping new novel.
‘Three Mormon Missions’ isn’t a book geared towards converting people, and it’s not really about religion at all; but instead it offers a rare and vital glimpse at what young Mormons go through while leaving their families to serve a mission much bigger than themselves.
Synopsis:
Three Mormon Missions is a fictional and heartwarming story of three Mormon missionaries-Bradly Cooper, Justin Miller, and Neil Young. Feel and experience their vivid emotions, personal struggles, and triumphs, as they prepare to leave their loved ones and serve the Lord by serving a Mormon mission. These three Mormon missionaries come from entirely different backgrounds. Mormon missionaries for the most part look alike; white shirt, scuffed shoes, dark tie, and a black missionary tag. After reading Three Mormon Missions, you will know that each of these well-mannered young men has a unique and beautiful personal story.
“Our three young protagonists are all very different,” explains Cook. “Bradly comes from a privileged California lifestyle and is a success at everything he turns his hand to. But will his relationship with a non-Mormon girlfriend survive during his two-year absence? Then there’s Justin, the eldest of seven children, who lives in a small farming community in Washington State and is grieving from the recent loss of his Father, as well as a stuttering issue? What will transpire when he’s called to serve in one of the nation’s biggest cities? Finally we have Neil from Utah, who can trace his lineage all the way back to Brigham Young. He’s 100% positive that he will be called to a place of high importance, perhaps never before touched by Mormon missionaries. He dreams of big things and high success, but will the fruits actually grow?”
Continuing, “The book takes a holistic view at these young men’s stories, with insights into their perspectives and those of the families they leave behind. My wife and I found the separation to be extremely difficult at times, and people knew not to disturb my wife on a Monday as she waited for Greg’s weekly email to drop in!”
Aside from its gripping story, Cook also wants to use the book to dispel many myths plaguing society.
“People think that, just because Mormon missionaries look the same, they come from a common mold. The reality is very different; each has a unique story to tell and should never be defined by their uniform. It’s also important for people to understand that, while the young men are serving a bold purpose, being away isn’t easy for anyone. Many believe that parents would do anything to keep their sons sharing the Word…but I can attest to the fact that even though we had fervently prayed that Greg would have the desire to serve, we missed him deeply,” he adds.
