Matt Noren Has Launched a Kickstarter Campaign to Build His Own Jeans Factory in Seattle
His goal is expanding Tarboo Inc. to include a new line of handmade denim clothing.
Seattle, WA -- (SBWire) -- 11/28/2014 --Seattle, WA - Matt Noren always preferred creating personal relationships in the course of his work as a clothing designer. So instead of moving up the corporate ladder, he gravitates toward getting closer to the customer.
That’s the impetus for a brand new project, his own handmade jeans factory in Seattle.
He started out working for a menswear startup in New York City and then took a job at a family-run garment factory. The next step was a 2010 move back to his native Seattle for the launch his own clothing business, Tarboro Inc. It was named for a small bay tucked away in the Hood Canal where his family has owned a house for many years.
“From my experience in New York, I found that consumers really appreciate having a direct relationship to the hands behind the craft,” Noren said. “So I began producing pieces during my nights and evenings at the factory. I gave them away or bartered them, and people seemed to really like them.”
“The best part was that they knew the person who produced the garment. That’s when I got inspired to start my own business.”
Tarboo currently offers handmade shirts, bags, T-shirts and hats for men and women. Noren wants to extend the scope to include denim jeans.
“We want to expand into a new line that lives up to the quality of our handmade shirts and other items,” he said. “In order to do this, we need to rapidly expand our production capabilities.”
This would include increasing our factory space, hiring workers and purchasing new machinery. Noren estimates the total cost to be around $50,000.
In order to generate this capital, he has launched a Kickstarter campaign, which can be viewed at www.kickstarter.com/projects/1707011614/tarboo-a-seattle-denim-factory
Donations of any amount are welcome. For $25, backers will receive a handmade bandana. A $50 pledge is rewarded with a five-panel denim hat. You can get a pair of 100 percent cotton, straight-leg jeans for a $100 contribution.
“What we enjoy most is the process of taking raw materials and transforming them into a product that will accompany its owner day in and day out, for years to come,” said Noren. “When we design our garments, we focus on not only delivering a phenomenal product but one that is truly built to last.”
