The Bank Inspector: New Detective Novel Thrusts Readers Onto Stray Cat-Ridden Back-Blocks of the 1950s City - Where Greed, Loyalty & Deception Collide

Masterfully crafted by Roger Monk, 'The Bank Inspector' harks back to the days of three-piece suits, hard-working cities and detectives that needed grit … real grit … to solve even the simplest of crimes. The case that lands in Detective Sergeant Brian Shaw's hands is far from simple, sounding almost too innocent to be a bank robbery. However, through the greed and deception of the city's back blocks, it soon becomes apparent that this crime is as hard-nosed as the rest of them.

Adelaide, SA -- (SBWire) -- 03/12/2015 --While crime fiction has long been a staple of the literary world, readers and critics are currently crying out for wholly unique new narratives that don't succumb to recycling of the 'same old' concepts.

Thankfully, Australia's Roger Monk is stepping up to the plate with gusto, releasing a detective novel that transcends its genre's norms to collide with the culture of its day.

Set in 1950, 'The Bank Inspector' paints a perfect picture of the industry-chugging cities that defined the decade. There's just one thing … that bank over there is about to be robbed, and its story is far from simple.

Synopsis:

The perfect crime!
One Monday morning, a bank branch is robbed.
No one hurt or threatened
Not a hold-up. Not a tunnel under the vault.
A three minutes' robbery and the thief drives away. Not followed. Not caught.
A perfect, flawless crime.

Detective Sergeant Brian Shaw hardly knows where to start, especially as he is distracted by an attempted murder in a nearby street.

A brilliant, surprising story of greed, treachery, love, fornication, brutality and a heart-breaking family feud.

"Anyone who has worked in a bank will find that this story particularly fascinating and gripping," explains Monk. "The fusion of traditional detective fiction with a number of intense quirks also makes it perfect for those who have broad tastes. At its helm, the narrative explores and preserves the hustle and bustle of 1950 city life - a life that was as tumultuous and unpredictable as it was exciting - with contrasting life in country towns."

Continuing, "There's the notion of stray cats and old smells and of newly arrived Lebanese immigrants beginning a new life. There's the sound of sweat shops secretly making huge profits at others' expense and a population that will do anything to succeed as it clashes with the old ways. Prepare to walk down the narrow alleyways, to sense the greed, see the betrayal first hand and taste the bold battle between loyalty and deception."
