Natural Hair Movement Among Black Women Being Embraced by National Chain Retailer
Thank God I'm Natural®(TGIN) Now in Target Stores Nationwide As The Multi-Million Dollar Black Haircare Industry Thrives
Los Angeles, CA -- (SBWire) -- 03/30/2015 --On March 1st, the "tgin Moist Collection" for natural black hair rolled out to more than 250 Target stores nationwide. Target stores are the first major chain retailer to feature natural hair products, they won't likely be the last. The natural hair products segment of the nearly billion dollar black hair care industry has been growing ever stronger with the emerging natural hair movement that women of African descent have been embracing in droves over the last 5-7 years.
Lee Torrey, Board Advisor of the BlackHairOMG Media Group was quoted as saying, "The financial impact of the black haircare industry is amazingly underestimated, and admittedly so. Market research firm Mintel estimated the size of the 2012 market at $684 million, with a projection of $761 million by the year 2017. But what's interesting is that Mintel also wisely noted that what's absent from their figures are general hair care market brands, wigs, extensions, weaves, independent beauty supply stores, e-commerce, distributors, appliances and styling tools. When all of those various aspects are taken into consideration, that $684 million in expenditures could easily reach a whopping half trillion dollars."
CEO of Thank God I'm Natural® and Harvard graduate, Chris-Tia Donaldson, recalls a time when there were very few products that were being designed for black women who had the desire to wear their hair in its natural state. Ms.Donaldson began doing research and 10 years later, she launched her own line of products which were inspired by her 2009 self-published, best-selling book, "Thank God I'm Natural: The Ultimate Guide to Caring for Natural Hair." She is now seeing her vision come to fruition on a large scale with the Target deal. Every product is created using natural and organic ingredients, contains zero parabens and phthalates and has never been tested on animals.
Ms.Donaldson has been on a media campaign to let her target audience know where to find her company's products. She was recently a participant in an expert roundtable interview of "naturalistas" with BlackHairOMG Media Group concerning natural hair products, the interviewed featured some of the most respected and recognized public figures in the natural hair community. The celebrated experts from both the US and UK, included Health Scientists, hair company CEOs, published authors and TV personalities.
This collaboration of natural hair experts was the inaugural launch of expert roundtable projects addressing the concerns of the growing natural hair community, aimed at informing and educating the excited and engaged consumers of the new and rapidly growing hair care sector.
