Richmond, VA -- (SBWire) -- 04/13/2015 --Windshield has evolved from a simple protection from wind and dust while driving to a much more innovative part of automobiles. Earlier versions of windshields were made of ordinary window glass. However, it led to some serious physical injuries in the event of car crashes and accidents. Windshields these days are aerodynamically designed to protect a driver and its passengers. Most countries all across the globe requires the manufacture of windshields to be rigid and to stay in one piece even if broken, except for instances when it is pierced by a very strong force.
There are myriad ways on how to protect and take care of windshields. Ace Glass, which has been providing windshields and auto glass repair and replacement, collated a few relevant tips on how to take care of windshields to prevent early replacement and repair.
1 – Avoid Slamming Car Doors: Intense vibrations caused by slamming car doors result to slowly damaging windshield. The minor surface damages on windshields may spread every time the car door is slammed. Take extra care in opening and closing car doors to ensure windshields would last.
2 – Avoid Parking the car in direct sunlight for a long time: The greater the amount of time a car is left in direct sunlight, the more the windshield's life is shortened. The little cracks on the windshield may worsen when there is a considerable difference on the temperature on either side of the windshield. One should choose to park in shady and cool places to extend the life of the windshield.
3 – Avoid Ammonia-Containing Glass Cleaners: Ammonia-containing ingredients can damage the tint of the windshield when used for cleaning aside from being dangerous when inhale. It will be much better to use a wipe of vinegar or alcohol once a week to clean windshields. The use of microfiber and cotton towels are also recommended for cleaning as they leave no streaks and dust behind after clean-up.
4 –Fix and clean the wipers: Most windshield damage comes from the dust particles and dust embedded on the wipers. It should always be checked and properly cleaned. Using a rag and a windshield fluid washer will surely remove dust, sand particles and other contaminants on the wipers. This will make sure that the dirt on the wipers will not be transferred to the windshield and will not cause any more damage.
5 – Have the windshields checked by experts regularly: Cracks and chips may cause further damage on windshields. Dust, pebbles and sand particles can cause fracture on the glass and may cause surface damage on the windshield if left unattended. It is best to have regular windshield check-up to avoid future huge damages.
Windshields are now considered as safety devices when riding an automobile. Its manufacture and installation are being studied immensely to make sure it can protect lives while riding moving cars. Thus, like any other car parts, utmost care and attention should be given to windshields.
