New Motorized Skateboard Is Powered by an Electric Drill
Langley, CA -- (SBWire) -- 05/19/2015 --Tony Ward is a longtime skateboarding enthusiast as well as a part-time inventor. One day, while doing a lunchtime jog, he conjured up a novel idea.
Could I power a skateboard with a cordless drill?
Although extremely quirky, it did seem plausible. Ward began to build prototypes, tested them out and, slowly but surely, he developed a viable product. He's calling it the KRANX Powerstik.
Teaming with Jon Kroeker, owner of Ktech Manufacturing Inc., Ward created a sound business plan for mass producing the KRANX Powerstik, which is basically a kit that converts an ordinary skateboard into one that is motorized. The KRANX Powerstik attaches in seconds and can be removed just as easily.
"It's a new way to cruise and I think people are really going to enjoy it," says Ward, who lives in Langley, B.C., Canada. "The KRANX Powerstik has a simple design, an easy assembly and an affordable price.
"It took a couple of years, several iterations and many, many different kinds of parts but the design for has been finalized and tested. It works really well and is ready to market."
The retail price for this device is $228 US but Ward is offering up big discounts for those who will help get this project off the ground. His start-up budget is $12,500, most of which will be used to purchase inventory. In order to generate this funding, he has launched a Kickstarter campaign, which can be viewed at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kranx-powerstik/the-kranx-powerstik-a-new-way-to-cruise?ref=discovery
The Kickstarter page includes a video of the KRANX Powerstik in action as well as photos and diagrams of this new technology.
A KRANX Powerstik can be ordered through the Kickstarter page for just $145 US, an $83 savings. A $269 US pledge gets you a Canadian Maple ply cruiser board powered by the KRANX Powerstik along with a T-shirt and sticker set. All you'll need is a cordless drill.
"I really enjoy riding this invention of mine because it's so much fun," says Ward. "My goal was not to make an electric skateboard. There are a lot of companies doing that already. My goal was to make something that would put a smile on your face.
"We're 98 percent of the way there. We just need a little public support to get this project rolling."
