East Stroudsburg, PA -- (SBWire) -- 05/21/2015 --The crowdfunding campaign for the project of SolarPuff that is a little lantern with a huge impact, a patent pending solar powered lantern that packs flat and easily pops open has been a popular success. The project has drawn huge support from backers and has surpassed its initial funding goal of $25,000 USD, raising over $300,000 USD so far. Now with only a few days left for the campaign to end, the team behind the SolarPuff lantern and the crowdfunding campaign are encouraging people to increase their contributions to support SolarPuff project on kickstarter The team believes the pledges will help make the impact that SolarPuff was intended to have on people in need. https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/solightdesign/solarpuff-a-unique-little-solar-light
The success of the campaign has much to do with the uniqueness and the efficient design of the SolarPuff, made with the principles of origami the collapsible lantern is made out of a sustainable and high-performance fabric specifically engineered for durability, flexibility and water resistance, and structured for adaptability and recyclability. The circuit which contains a photovoltaic solar panel, 10 bright white LEDS and a lithium-ion polymer battery are all encased for protection in a vacuumed sealed bladder which allows the lanterns to float as well as be completely immersed in water.
The impact SolarPuff lanterns intend to have is to be a more viable and ecofriendly substitute to kerosene lighting or lights that use "dirty fuel" which have many harms, especially in areas that have little to no access to reliable lighting.
The SolarPuff project pitch elaborates that the IFC (International Finance Corporation) estimates that globally, over 1.6 billion people – possibly as high as 3 billion – are living without access to reliable electricity. According to figures from the International Energy Agency, at least 20% of the planet's inhabitants are still without the simple luxury of a light switch.
This includes the recent disaster areas of Nepal, that suffered great loss of life and destruction of infrastructure after a major earthquake of magnitude 7.8 hit Nepal on April 25th 2015. People there are now in need of most of life sustaining necessitates including reliable lighting and supporting the SolarPuff campaign can help. According to the product specifications light flat packs to 0.25 inches. It boasts 100 lumens and can fully charge in the sun in 8 hours lasting for 8-12 hours of light.
Those who have already contributed to the project can also add funds to their pledge to donate SolarPuff lanterns to Nepal, by adding on to their reward tier. More information about pledging to the project, SolarPuff lanterns and history of the SolarPuff is available on:
