The U.S. Supreme Court has Legalized Same Sex Marriage in all 50 states, Creating More Rights for Same Sex Couples with Children. This Decision is Akin to Rulings Like Roe v. Wade in Terms of Historical Significance.

Austin, TX -- (SBWire) -- 08/10/2015 --The Supreme Court declared on Friday, June 26 in a landmark 5-4 decision that same sex couples have a right to marry anywhere in the United States. Gay and lesbian couples had marriage rights in 36 states as well as the District of Columbia. Friday's ruling means same sex marriage bans must be lifted in the remaining 14 states.

Same sex couples are now free to get married where they please. More importantly, the ruling helps children with parents in same sex relationships.

According to Austin, Texas family law attorney, Cristi Trusler, "This is an important win for protecting and supporting our nations children of same sex couples."

Children of same sex couples have been left in limbo because their parents couldn't be legally married; and in many cases left without child support when same sex couples split up or even when a parent dies because adoption was not an option, so one parent had no legal rights (or duties). The ruling is also a win for same sex adoptions.

Trusler said, "Same sex marriage is just the tip of the iceberg. The right to get married gives same sex couples access to a lot of the rights heterosexual couples have enjoyed for many years."

And according to Trusler, same sex marriage will help with estate planning and income taxes because same sex couples will now get the benefit of a marriage exemption. This will also lead to inheritance rights for married same sex couples.

While everyone is excited about same sex marriages, the ruling inevitably means that same sex couples will also divorce when and where they please if the situation requires it.
