The human papillomavirus (HPV) can, in some cases, cause extremely large anal warts. (2) Dr. Lowney stressed that HPV, which causes anal warts is "considered a sexually transmitted disease (STD) … (but) … you do not have to have anal intercourse to develop anal warts." (2)
