Mass. Legislature Recognizes Allston Collision Center as TURA 25th Anniversary Leader
Award acknowledges company's green auto body initiative, which has successfully reduced usage of toxic materials, Allston Collision Center reports
Allston, MA -- (SBWire) -- 09/22/2015 --The Massachusetts State Legislature has recognized Allston Collision Center as a Toxics Use Reduction Act 25th Anniversary Leader. In voluntarily switching to water-based paints, productively reusing paint thinner, making use of the latest recycling systems for a range of materials, and taking other proactive steps, Allston Collision Center stands out as an example for other environmentally conscious businesses to follow. Now in its third generation of family ownership, Allston Collision Center is one of the Boston area's most trusted and well-reviewed auto body repair services.
"It is a great honor to be recognized as a TURA 25th Anniversary Leader," Allston Collision owner Elaine M. O'Neill said, "We're proud to be able to show how businesses like ours can take voluntary steps to safeguard the environment while delivering an even higher level of service. We would like to thank our many valued customers for their support, along with the Toxics Use Reduction Institute at UMass Lowell and the state's Office of Technical Assistance and Technology for their help and counsel."
Passed in 1989 with the twin goals of protecting public health and making Massachusetts businesses even more competitive, the state's Toxics Use Reduction Act has since inspired similar initiatives in a number of other states and in countries around the world. Instead of imposing set limits and regulations on companies that work with toxic materials, the Act requires them to report on their usage patterns every two years to the Toxics Use Reduction Institute (TURI).
Based at the University of Massachusetts Lowell campus, TURI is funded by small fees contributed by businesses covered under the act. The training programs, technical assistance, and grant initiatives TURI develops have proven to be highly effective at encouraging Massachusetts businesses to reduce their usage of toxic substances, even without specific regulatory requirements to do so.
Allston Collision Center has now been recognized as one of the finest examples of all of the effectiveness of the Toxics Use Reduction Act and associated programs. A case study produced by the Massachusetts Office of Technical Assistance and Technology provides a detailed look at the many productive steps the company has taken to reduce its reliance on toxic materials and is available at http://www.mass.gov/eea/docs/eea/ota/allston-collision-center-case-study-final.pdf
With a history stretching back to 1928, Allston Collision Center has been an important part of the Boston-area community for decades. The company's commitment to environmental friendliness is a reflection of its pursuit of excellence across the board, a drive that has made it one of the most successful and highly regarded auto body repair shops in the region.
