CEO A. Harrison Barnes of Hound says that the latest jobs report proves yet again that restaurants and fast food chains are among the biggest hirers right now.

Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 11/10/2010 -- In the first positive net jobs growth since May, 151,000 jobs were created in October.

The data comes from the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics’ jobs report. 159,000 jobs were created in the nonfarm private sector, but 8,000 government jobs cut in October. This brought the net jobs growth to 151,000. The jobs report suggests that the economy is finally picking up after months of stagnant and negative jobs growth.

But the unemployment rate stayed the same at 9.6 percent. The major reason for this is that an increasing number of the jobless have just dropped out of the workforce. There are 2.6 million marginally attached workers in the labor force. Out of this 2.6 million, 1.2 million are discouraged workers who have completely given up looking for a job.

The main sectors which accounted for most of the jobs growth were the temporary help services (35,000), healthcare (24,000), food services and drinking places (24,000), positions in retail (28,000) and computer systems design and related services (8,000). Outside of the service sector, 8,000 jobs were created in mining. Other sectors remained stagnant, with manufacturing losing another 7,000 jobs.

Despite the relatively impressive jobs growth, the fact remains that 150,000 jobs need to be created every month just to keep pace with the population growth. CEO A.
