South Florida law firm Hochman & Goldin, P.A. recently discussed Chloe's Law, a new proposed law currently being evaluated by Florida lawmakers after being filed on October 13th.

Miami, FL -- (SBWire) -- 12/11/2015 --Chloe's Law is named after late University of Central Florida student Chloe Arenas. Arenas was on her way to the airport to pick up her family when she lost control of her vehicle and crashed into a retention pond, losing her life. Chloe's family believes that if there had been guardrails installed near the retention pond, her life could have been potentially saved.

If Chloe's Law passes, it will in fact be mandatory to install guardrails near all retention ponds as well as any area where a motorist may have lost his or her life in a death involving drowning. The amount of money this could cost and the time necessary to do it is one of the primary factors that could prevent Chloe's Law from passing. Florida is the top state in the country in drowning deaths.

The Florida Legislature will evaluate Chloe's Law in January 2016. The Florida Department of Transportation is currently taking a look at how other states have dealt with roadways that happen to be near a body of water.
