Autonomous Vehicles Are Set to Crash: Zen Law Comments

Manchester, England -- (SBWire) -- 11/18/2015 --As technology advances, self-driving cars are increasingly at the forefront of more media attention with their release expected in the next five years. Due to the research and production processes underway, there are now claims that autonomous cars will still have the potential to crash, despite Volvo previously claiming that it aims to have zero deaths in its cars by 2020 due to self-driving technology.

In the Spring budget of this year the government announced it would provide £100m to help the development and research needed to make self-driving cars a product of the future and to help the UK become a global hub for the development of such technologies.

From the Centre for Connected and Autonomous Driving, Iain Forbes said when talking to The Telegraph, that "there are currently 1,700 deaths a year on British roads" but the technology for autonomous cars wouldn't completely eradicate accidents from UK roads. He said "people would still have to be comfortable with 170 deaths a year."

Without accidents, the technology wouldn't reach its full potential and there is no guarantee that self-driving technology can stop road traffic accidents. People who own the cars will need to know how to use them and pedestrians will also need to be educated for them to be safe.

Road Traffic Accidents do still happen, and usually at the fault of someone else's negligence. Injuries can be serious and sometimes fatal and any measure to reduce those figures would be welcome. Zen Law solicitors specialise in injury from road traffic accidents and were keen to comment on the news: "Autonomous cars are innovative and look to be safer, however any vehicles should be treated with the same care and attention that standard cars are. Accidents can be serious on the road and we are here to help should they happen."
