Pasadena, CA -- (SBWire) -- 11/29/2010 -- Google is on a hiring spree in the midst of a tech boom in Silicon Valley.

Google has 2,076 openings worldwide and over half of them are in USA. This is according to a report from Reuters. Although Google has not said exactly how many job openings does it have right now, it says that the job listings on its website are up to date. The report also quotes Google’s finance chief telling investors in a September meeting that the industry was going through a “war for talent”.

The hiring spree is happening even as the company is expanding into new services and is on an acquisitions spree as well. Google has acquired over 20 companies so far this year. The acquisitions have already swelled Google’s employee ranks to over 23,300 till now. Google is also facing a tech talent war with Facebook, which has succeeded in attracting a lot of Google talent this year. Google, in a move widely seen as a means of retaining top talent, has announced a 10 percent across the board raise starting in 2011.

The IT industry in Silicon Valley has seen an increase in job postings for engineers and other technical positions by 69% in the last 12 months. The people who are most in demand are software engineers, graphic designers, and project managers.

CEO A. Harrison Barnes of InformationTechnologyCrossing says that for computer professionals, this was the best time since the dotcom boom ended. “IT workers need to have the latest in demand skills, that’s the key to getting these new jobs.” Barnes’ firm has been able to compile a list of over 13,000 IT jobs in the Bay Area so far.
