UK IKEA to Offer Indoor Hydroponic Garden
Bradford, West Yorkshire -- (SBWire) -- 04/26/2016 --Hydroponics has been championed by many as the premier method for cost effective and sustainable food production amidst increasing world poverty and high demand for safe, healthy food sources. Hydroponic growing presents numerous benefits as it uses artificial lighting and does not require the use of soil, enabling it to be used absolutely anywhere.
IKEA stores in the UK are set to add an indoor hydroponic garden system to their already expansive product range, bringing growing potential directly to the kitchen of enthusiasts. The system will be rolled out in May and will allow consumers to grow their own herbs and lettuce easily by simply maintaining the water level of the plants.
The system provides everything needed to maintain a year round crop of vegetables. It couldn't be simpler to use. Soak a batch of starter pods in water and place into the designated container with the desired seeds on the top of the pods. As the seeds germinate and start to grow, they are replanted into larger container where they will grow under a special artificial light. Other than replanting, the only maintenance required is the water level.
A spokesperson for Leeds Hydro Store said "It's terrific to see that hydroponics is being adopted by some very large companies as an incredible and efficient means of food production. The benefits are numerous and this shows that you can literally grow anywhere with hydroponics."
