RDR Technologies Offers Non-Toxic Fire Retardant to the West Coast
Newly Acquired Certifications Kick Off California Sales
Oklahoma City, OK -- (SBWire) -- 04/26/2016 --RDR Technologies, an Oklahoma-based fire retardant manufacturer and distributor, has successfully passed the stringent CA 1237.1 fire safety test for its flagship retardant, BanFire. This opens up a whole new market for RDR in California, allowing them to offer BanFire to the thousands of schools, day cares, nursing homes and restaurants on the west coast.
RDR Technologies was started in 2007 to bring a wide selection of fire retardant, fire suppressant, and related chemicals to market – bringing the best available technologies from their labs and from other manufacturers. This has given them the freedom to select the best solutions on the market today for a wide variety of fire code problems.
BanFire is a non-toxic flame retardant spray designed to treat fabric in public places, such as drapes, curtains, wall hangings and decorations. BanFire passed the NFPA 701 testing requirements in 2013, and has since sold well all over the country. Recently, their retardants have passed California testing requirements, allowing them to provide their fire-safety products to protect west coast residents.
California has consistently maintained rigorous fire safety requirements that go above and beyond national standards. The Golden state was the driving force behind the adoption of stricter fire retardancy requirements for both upholstered furniture and bedding. Manufacturers started incorporating fire retardants into their products nationwide. But after many years, it was discovered that many of the chemicals they used became toxic as the fabrics degraded.
After California banned the same chemicals that it once required, RDR Technologies saw an opportunity in providing a post-treatment fire retardant that was safe to use and very effective in fire prevention. BanFire contains just a few food-grade ingredients and water, and none of the PBDE-based chemicals that have come under recent attack.
"It is a huge step for our company to have a presence in one of the most populated states in the country," said owner Doug Stafford. "With the recent ban on brominated ethers, the California certification allows us to protect a huge population base with a safe, effective retardant."
