Rasdale Stamp Co. Announces Latest Auction Sales
Westmont, IL -- (SBWire) -- 06/29/2016 --The Illinois-based Rasdale Stamp Company has released details of sales of items from its latest auction, including picture postcards, sports collector cards, coins, stamps, Lionel trains, and even ornamental swords. Altogether, 1,745 lots were sold at the company's auction house, and people from all over the world were invited to participate in the sale.
Coins that were sold at the auction include a 1713 double thaler Pillar of the Most Trinity, coined for the City of Prague; a Wrotislav double thaler; and a 1684 scudo portrait of Pope Innocent XI commemorating victory over the Turkish armies in Vienna. A thaler is a coin that was in use in Europe for nearly 400 years, while the scudo is an Italian coin, either gold or silver, that was in use until the 19th century.
While Rasdale auctions take place on site at the company's Westmont, Illinois headquarters, remote bidding technology allows interested parties to take place in the auctions wherever they are located. All that is required is a computer and an Internet connection to see the auctions live. Participation in the auctions requires registration with Rasdale Stamp Company, which can be completed at the company's website, www.rasdalestamps.com.
Other notable lots include one consisting of 58 land deeds signed by U.S. presidents. The properties were all in Michigan, and the deeds were signed between 1835 and 1878. The most notable of the set is one signed by Abraham Lincoln on April 1, 1862.
Postcards in the collection were from across the globe and represented substantial quality and quantity. One lot consisted of 5,000 U.S. postcards ranging in age from the 1910s to the 1950s that pictured a number of states and towns. Foreign offerings included a number of World War II propaganda postcards from Italy and Germany.
The Rasdale Stamp Company is active in many of the associations, societies, and clubs that represent the stamp and coin collection community. A Rasdale representative currently serves as the secretary of the American Stamp Dealers Association, and Rasdale represents the Midwest Stamp Dealers Association as a director. Rasdale's memberships include those in the Chicago Collectors Club and the American Philatelic Society.
The lots sold at the auction included a number that consisted of collectible Lionel trains and accessories. The group represented a lifelong pursuit by a passionate collector that ultimately filled an entire garage. There were many complete train sets in original boxes in the Lionel lots. Cars included Union Pacific Freight Express, Caterpillar Rails, and CSX Freight Specials.
A small sword collection was also included in the auction. The swords for sale included multiple samurai ornamental swords and a replica of the famed Excalibur sword, designed in the style of the supposed era of the legendary weapon. In addition to the swords, other novel items included a one dollar bill issued by the Dayton Bank of St. Paul, Minnesota and a number of signatures, including one by J. Edgar Hoover and an autograph by Mickey Mantle.
