Credit Cards Compromised in over 19% of Data Breaches

Roswell, GA -- (SBWire) -- 03/28/2017 --Consumer credit card information has been compromised in one-fifth of the breaches that took place in 2016, a new record high number, Risk Based Security Inc. stated Wednesday.

RBS stated in its yearly Record Break QuickView, they found that 4,149 data breaches occurred, down 4% from 4,326 episodes in 2015.

"While the wide assortment of data breaches remained exceptionally levelled compared to the last year, the tremendous story flying out of 2016 is clearly the huge development inside the exposure of data." Inga Goddijn, administrator at RBS, expressed in his statement.

Email addresses have been compromised in 42.6% of the occurrences, next were the passwords with 38.1%. Social security numbers were uncovered in 16.4% of the time. 53.3% of specified breaches were due to hacking, RBS stated.

Hacking and data breaches clearly remain as a huge concern in the upcoming year and while there are some advancements in security protocols, many adjustments still need to take place.
