NEOFECT Has Won a Category Award at AARP Innovation Champions Competition
Washington, DC -- (SBWire) -- 06/23/2017 --NEOFECT, an American-Korean healthcare technology company, has been chosen as the winner in the "Caregiver Quality of Life" category at AARP Innovation Champions Award.
This year's prestigious AARP contest is devoted to innovation in caregiving. Award submissions were accepted in six categories: daily essential activities, caregiver quality of life, health and safety awareness, care coordination, social well-being and transition support.
NEOFECT has designed a line of products for intelligent rehabilitation. It includes Rapael Smart Glove, Rapael Smart Kids, Rapael Smart Board, and Rapael Smart Pegboard.
The company's flagship device, Rapael Smart Glove, was the Innovation Award Honoree at this year's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. The system includes an exo-glove with built-in sensors and artificial intelligence software to help patients with neurological and musculoskeletal injuries regain their hand mobility.
The Rapael software creates game-based training tasks. The learning schedule algorithm automatically adjusts the difficulty level based on the patient's range of motion and goals. This ensures the patient continues to stay challenged, at the same time, creating a positive, encouraging environment.
The sensors transmit the glove's data via Bluetooth technology. Therapists receive progress reports and can design specific rehabilitation programs by combining various games.
The system has been used by a number of hospitals around the world and approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Now, Rapael Smart Glove is available for rent by individuals to use at home. Stroke victims can rent it for $99 per month and work on regaining their hand mobility at the convenience of their homes.
The annual AARP Award rewards disruptive technologies and groundbreaking business models which are designed to create intuitive, affordable innovations. The contest is a celebration of the entrepreneurs of the frontier of change.
"We need to spark investment in what we call Ageless Innovation – innovations that are universally designed for all people – of any age," said Terry Bradwell, AARP's chief enterprise strategy and innovation officer. "We couldn't be more excited to introduce the Innovation Champion Awards to help raise awareness of products and services that can truly make a difference in people's lives."
By 2020, 117 million Americans are expected to need assistance, but the number of caregivers will only reach 45 million. It creates a huge gap between the supply and demand, opening countless opportunities for companies large and small to reach this emerging market. NEOFECT is proud to be among the industry's pioneers and will continue to introduce innovative products to improve the quality of life for millions of people around the globe.
