Dallas, TX -- (SBWire) -- 08/28/2017 --Joseph Mayberry aka Mr. Mayberry and Marcus "M-Positive" Parker release an uplifting new video to move the masses. The song was written as a title track for Tim Hampton's book series, "Holding my Own", "He Held His Own", and "Still Holding My Own".

Unlike the majority of today's hip hop, "Holding Our Own" not only delivers a very positive message but it also shows the seasoned lyrical talents that these two guys have. Both Mayberry and Parker have gone through extreme drama in their personal lives which makes the song that much more relevant and heartfelt.

The two met over 10 years ago at 97.9 The Beat when the local radio station was home of The Rickey Smiley Morning Show. Mr. Mayberry and Marcus Parker were both motivating student bodies in Dallas ISD as well as other districts around the state of Texas.

Marcus Parker was an active motivational speaker as a result of his successful Dallas Morning News Best-Selling book "The Product". Mr. Mayberry; while teaching and coaching high school basketball, headed up the TAKS Test Motivational Movement after receiving recognition from The Dallas Morning News. The Fort Worth Star Telegram and K104 FM for his motivational rap song Time Zone. The song encouraged students to believe, prepare and pass the state's standardized test.

The two have collaborated on many songs and even made an independent film in 2008 called "Live From the Booth". The film includes the other members of Mayberry's "Thick and Thin Family".

After booking several successful shows across Dallas, all signs directed one to think that the TNT Family was surely the next label to experience success similar to "Bad Boy", "Roc-A-Fella", and "No Limit Records". After a series of unfortunate, life altering events, Parker, Mayberry and the TNT Family had to watch life pause their musical ventures.

Marcus Parker was indicted by the government in 2008 for his involvement in a real estate scandal and Mr. Mayberry suffered a neck injury that left him temporarily paralyzed, in a wheelchair with a possibility of never walking again.

Now those same signs that once seemed so promising now appeared to give the only option of quitting the dream of growing their music empire. Fortunately, giving up was not an option for these two! Parker and Mayberry teamed up to "Hold Their Own" Both worked hard to motivate each other over the years.

Mr. Mayberry worked on his physical against all odds and not only walked again but returned to teaching and coaching helped lead Lancaster Boys Basketball team to Back to Back 5A State Titles. His epic story was picked up by NBC News Channel 5 in Dallas.

Marcus Parker, an Air Force Veteran also stayed the course. After completing federal probation in 2013, he was featured on World Star Hip Hop as well as HGTV's Property Brother's at Home television series.

"Holding Our Own" will surely go down in hip hop history as one of those classic songs that inspired and motivated a broken nation that is in need of hope and all the positivity it can get.
