Radio Show Host Dennis Tubbergen Interviews Congressman Bill Huizenga
Congressman Huizenga talks about fiscal responsibility with radio show host and financial advisor Dennis Tubbergen.
Grand Rapids, MI -- (SBWire) --06/06/2011 --Dennis Tubbergen has been in the financial industry for over 25 years, is CEO of USA Wealth Management LLC, a federally-registered investment advisory company; and is CEO of USA Advanced Planning, a tax planning and wealth transfer company. He is also an author and radio talk show host.
Tubbergen has been discussing debt in the U.S. for months on his radio show and in his online financial blog. Tubbergen recently featured U.S. Congressman Bill Huizenga from Michigan’s 2nd District as a guest on his March 27, 2010 episode of The Everything Financial Radio Show.
“My guest today knows what the real world is all about,” stated Tubbergen when introducing Congressman Huizenga to his radio audience. “He is a successful businessman and entrepreneur and is a native of Zeeland from Western Michigan.”
“We’re glad there are shows like yours preaching fiscal responsibility,” said Huizenga admiringly, commenting on Tubbergen’s radio show. Huizenga, a first-term U.S. Congressman, noted he is seeing “a lot of the same old rhetoric” in Washington, with a group that is trying to change things and another group not so eager to adopt policies that will get our debt under control.
“What needs to be done to get spending in line with tax receipts?” asked Tubbergen.
“I think the American people are willing to have this kind of conversation now,” noted Congressman Huizenga. “Short term we need to get the budget settled. Long term we need to deal with Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.”
Congressman Huizenga stated he believes there are a couple of different things that have to happen.
“First, we have to get spending in line,” he emphasized. “We have to align our questions on how to do this with what we are willing to do. And secondly, we need to grow the economy. We have to get people back to work.”
“According to recent research I have been doing to write a book, funds for programs such as Medicare and Medicaid almost consume our tax receipts,” lamented Tubbergen. “What should we be doing to get this in line?”
“I think it (debt in the U.S.) is a moral issue involving our kids and grandkids,” stressed Congressman Huizenga, a father of five. “My kids, grandkids and probably great-grandkids will be paying off this debt.”
The congressman, who at 42 years of age does not even have grandkids in his current family picture, like Tubbergen is very concerned about the debt-ridden legacy the current generation is leaving behind for future generations.
“For one thing, we have to re-think how we are dealing with the states,” urged Congressman Huizenga. “I saw this on the state side when I was a state legislator. The demands are huge that the federal government saddles our states with.”
The congressman went on to say that economically-speaking, Maine is different from Michigan, which is different from Minnesota, which is different from Montana, etc.
“Your website has a lot of useful information for the people of Michigan,” stated Tubbergen, noting his listening audience could go to http://www.house.gov/huizenga to find out how to make suggestions on potential legislation.
“We’re nibbling around the edges,” concluded Congressman Huizenga about current efforts for cutting spending and getting our debt under control. “We have to get at long-term spending.”
