Parent Choices for Struggling Teens Show “How To Build A New School”
Creating a successful school is not an easy task. One must first pick the precise type of child that you would like to work with and then build the schools needs around the students.
Bonners Ferry, ID -- (SBWire) -- 06/27/2011 --"Building a new school is not for the fainthearted," said Sharon Stricker, Founder of Whetstone Academy of South Carolina, a new Junior Boarding School for Boys in operation only a month, on LATalkRadio.com.
"The first consideration in founding a new school is to develop a precise profile of the kind of student you want to work with," explained Stricker, "followed by bringing together the elements of a program that will match the needs of the students."
"The next thing is to gather staff that are compatible and share your vision," continued Stricker, "followed by developing positive relationships with the agencies and neighbors of your school."
"All of these elements must be brought into a compatible whole, along with many other important elements, in order to create a new school that succeeds," concluded Stricker.
After several months of planning and developing, Sticker's new school, Whetstone Academy, opened its doors a little over a month ago. Currently at six students, Stricker projected that the optimum size of her school would be about 40 students. "So far, so good," exclaimed Stricker.
Stricker was a guest on Lon Woodbury's LATalkRadio.com show Parent Choices for Struggling Teens talking about what she learned during the process of developing Whetstone Academy.
The Academy is a Junior Boarding School emphasizing developing each student's innate abilities and intelligences through a marriage of two philosophies, that of the Montessori methods and that of Carl Rogers. The purpose of the school is to take young boys who are floundering or making poor decisions and help them learn how to have the self confidence to make positive decisions.
