A balanced diet and the correct nutrition may help with potentially reversing the effects of gum disease.
Miami, FL -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/03/2019 -- A Journal of Clinical Periodontology study took a close look at how an anti-inflammatory diet would affect an individual's periodontal health. Since periodontitis is inflammation, it was safe to assume that the effects would more than likely lead to positive results.
A group of more than 25 people was placed into a pair of groups, one of which consumed a diet consisting of very little processed carbs and animal proteins but rich in omega?3 fatty acids, vitamins C and D, antioxidants, and more for a period of about a month. The other group was asked to continue their regular diet. Both groups were asked not to clean between their teeth.
After closely evaluating the groups, the ones following the anti-inflammatory diet had significantly less gum bleeding and even ended up losing weight. The research may reinforce the importance of following a diet that provides the right nutrition to ensure the body and dental health remains in good shape.
