New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/08/2011 -- Taap.it Mobile Marketplace crosses $2.4 million in posted transactions, in just under two months since TechCrunch Disrupt 2011.
Taap.it Mobile Marketplace provides a mobile app that instantly connects local customers and local businesses within a neighborhood, allowing local businesses to offer goods and services with the snap of a camera phone.
Taap.it just reached $2.4 million in posted business transactions today. The local NYC mobile app reached the goal in NYC alone in two months after their initial debut at TechCrunch. The goal was achievable in large part due to the recent addition of business users that are using Taap.it to reach more of their own customers in NYC.
“Local businesses now can setup a mobile storefront on Taap.it in 15 minutes,” said Duy Huynh, Co-founder and CEO of Taap.it Mobile Marketplace. “It is fast and simple, and requires no technical skills. The only requirement for business owners to setup their own mobile storefront is to know how to take a picture from their phone. How can running a business be more simple than that?”
Some of the businesses that are working with Taap.it include large real estate companies such as Bond New York and Exit Kingdom Reality, fashion boutiques such as Harlem Heaven Hat Store and Chrome, and local eateries such as T.S. Ma and Mellie's Seafood Restaurant.
“Basically, within 15 seconds, you will be able to list the item you want to sell, which solves a pain point in the selling and sharing of services and goods to people just down the street,” said Rip Empson, Editor at TechCrunch. “No longer do you have to snap a pic, copy to your computer, go online, and post. Not that you would grow old doing this, but in today’s world, faster is always better.”
The idea for Taap.it comes from the need to have a fast, simple, and instant way for local businesses to reach out to their local customers, which has not been fully addressed in the market. Right now when local businesses want to sell goods or services, they have to go through either the local newspaper (which is costly and slow) or an e-commerce site like eBay or Craigslist (which is a hassle because you need your computer to post). There is no mobile solution yet for local business owners to setup a shop on mobile devices.
Taap.it solves such problems by creating a fun and easy way for local businesses to quickly post their items on the mobile phone. They can simply just “taap it” to take a picture on their phone and post it within an instant.
“It is a terrific idea and should in theory provide an alternative small business marketing strategy to the more chaotic Groupon,” said Andy Green, Editor from The Technoverse Blog.
Taap.it is located in Midtown Manhattan with more than 20 employees and continues to grow fast. It was founded by a group of friends, including Duy Huynh, Ha Tran, Tien Nguyen, and Bao Huynh. Taap.it launched its beta at TechCrunch Disrupt in May 2011, and officially launched in July 2011.
“With very little to no marketing, we have crossed 2 million dollars in posted transactions in New York City alone just under 2 months,” said Duy Huynh. “We are on the right track now to achieve at least 10 million in posted transactions by the end of August, as we are expanding to other cities in the U.S. and international cities as well.”
