Kite Surf Champion Kirsty Jones Demonstrates Sea Sense in Cornwall

Essential Travel Campaign Aims To Boost Water Safety

London, England -- (SBWIRE) -- 08/29/2011 -- Today, Perranporth saw British World Champion kite surfer Kirsty Jones tackle some of Cornwall's most impressive waves - and win. As ambassador for Sea Sense, the water safety campaign launched by leading online travel insurance provider, Essential Travel, Kirsty explained how simple steps can help reduce the risk of watersport accidents.

Commenting on her commitment to the campaign, Kirsty said: "Sea Sense is about having respect for the ocean, other water users and your own limitations. This means pausing to observe and acknowledge when the conditions seem too dangerous for you."

Herself the victim of an accident in Mauritius last year that required reconstructive knee surgery, Kirsty said: "Having the right insurance is just part of ensuring your water safety. I was able to concentrate on recovering from my injury rather than worrying about paying for treatment, but of course a lot of Sea Sense is about reducing risk in the first place."

Enjoying the surf with Kirsty were Andy Heath, and his girlfriend both from Stevenage, who won a weekend of kite surfing with Kirsty courtesy of Essential Travel through a national newspaper competition.

Stuart Bensusan of Essential Travel said: "People often don't think to invest in specialist water sports cover when holidaying somewhere like Cornwall. It's really important to ensure you're covered for water sports wherever in the world you go, just in case the holiday spirit inspires you to try something new."
