And as of this summer, Ford will offer seven vehicles equipped with the smallest engines in their categories, which is the most of any automaker.

EcoBoost engines are smaller and lighter than other engines, which helps reduce vehicle weight, thus improving fuel efficiency. And through the combination of technologies like turbocharging and variable valve timing, Ford was able to avoid reductions in power by achieving a higher output-per-liter. In fact, these EcoBoost powered vehicles not only offer better fuel economy than the competition, but the majority deliver as much, if not more, power than the competition as well.

Ford’s EcoBoost innovations can improve fuel economy by as much as 20% and reduce CO2 emissions up to 15%. Vehicles that were once equipped with V8 engines are now being outfitted with EcoBoost V6 engines, V6’s are being replaced with EcoBoost four-cylinders, and so on. As if that wasn’t impressive enough, Ford recently announced that its latest innovation – an EcoBoost 1.0-liter 3-cylinder engine – will be released in North America about a year from now.
