Screamtank is pleased to announce its involvement in Animal Planet’s "Mermaids: The Body Found."
New York, NY -- (SBWIRE) -- 06/20/2012 -- Launched in August 2011 by Primetime Emmy Award-winning sound design, composition, and mix engineer Damon Trotta, along with audio partner James von Buelow, Screamtank received credits for original music and sound mixing in the show’s May 27th premiere, which culminated in the network’s first-ever Monster Week. More than 2 million viewers tuned in to watch "Mermaids: The Body Found," making it the most-watched telecast since 2006. Monster Week was Animal Planet's most-watched prime time content since 2003.
Written by Charlie Foley and Vaibhav Bhatt and produced by Jamie Dugger, "Mermaids: The Body Found" is a story about evolutionary possibility grounded in scientific theory, which blends real-life events and phenomena with a firsthand account of a team of government scientists who testify that they found the remains of a never-before-identified sea creature with ties to human origins—a mermaid. Stunning computer animation, eyewitness video, and photographic evidence show us what the mermaid looks like, and questions are raised about whether the government is involved in a massive cover-up, hiding information about the possible survival of these creatures and the possibility that they exist today.
“We’ve worked with Jamie and the entire Animal Planet team for years, but this project was special,” Trotta notes. “They came to us to do what we do. They were familiar with our sound-mixing skills, as well as our collaborative musical venture, von Garcia, and they thought its composition style would be a perfect fit for the show. I’d said after our album release that our sound ‘plays like water.’ I guess the mermaids agreed.”
Screamtank was built on the premise that, when you are passionate about something, you embody it until the lines between life and work disappear. With studios in Santa Fe and New Jersey, von Buelow and Trotta provide top-tier audio production to a diverse, demanding clientele. The pair has collectively garnered accolades that reflect the caliber of their work, including numerous Promax Awards, Tellys, CINEs, Banffs, ADDYs, and the 2009 Primetime Emmy Awards for “Outstanding Sound Mixing for Nonfiction Programming” and “Outstanding Nonfiction Special,” both for the History Channel’s "102 Minutes that Changed America."
“It was an absolute pleasure to work with Screamtank,” Dugger and Bhatt state. “Damon and James are by far two of the most talented engineers and musicians in the business. They exceeded our expectations out of the gate and now we’re scrambling to get another big idea together before they’re too busy to work with us again.”
"Mermaids: The Body Found" encores Thursday, May 31, from 8 to 10 PM ET/PT on Animal Planet.
