Chardham Yatra 2010- Badrinath, Kedarnath, Gangotri, Yamunotri Shrines Opening Soon

The Chardham Yatra nestling in the Garhwal Himalayas is all set to kick off. Preparations are in the final stages for smooth conduct of the six-month Chardham Yatra.

Gangotri is situated in Uttarakhand in the magnificent Garhwal Himalayas. The 6 meters high Gangotri shrine is dressed in white granite stone and is situated on the right bank of the river, Bhagirathi. This 18th century temple is dedicated to the Goddess Ganga. This year the shrine of Gangotri reopens on 16 May.

The shrine of Kedarnath is scenically located amidst the majestic mountains of the Garhwal Hills. Kedarnath at the head of the Mandakini River is a very sacred pilgrimage of the Hindus. It is a famous pilgrim site for Lord Shiva devotees and will open on May 16 for this year.

Badrinath Temple is one of the holiest Hindu shrines in India. It is situated in the hill town of Badrinath in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand state. Badrinath temple is dedicated to lord Vishnu which is also known by the names Badri Vishal and Badrinarayan. The Badrinath temple will be opened for pilgrims on May 19 at 8.05 A.M.

The temple opens every year in the month of April-May. The temples are open only for six months every year (between the end of April and the beginning of November), due to extreme weather conditions in the Himalayan region.
